The Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) is looking to recruit a new Director of Rugby Operations.

We’re thrilled to invite applications for the position of Director of Rugby Operations. This dynamic role oversees a vibrant section boasting 10 senior teams—7 men’s and 3 women’s—and a thriving youth division with over 1,100 juniors.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a dynamic entrepreneurial spirit and possess strong, proven experience in stakeholder management. A solid business and commercial background is essential. In addition, a passion for rugby is advantageous, but it is not mandatory. Experience in sports performance or a related field is highly valued.
This position reports functionally to the Rugby Chairperson and will have a direct line to the Director of Sport, offering an exciting opportunity to shape the future of our rugby community.
Role Summary
- Strategy: Support the Rugby Section Committee (RSC) in crafting a comprehensive strategy to ensure club success both on and off the pitch.
- Team Leadership: Oversee members of staff, including heads of women’s and men’s performance, commercial lead, and operational administrator. Lead volunteer management teams across women’s & men’s elite, senior community & youth.
- Subcommittee Support: Assist the current six established subcommittees (as below) and oversee the running of all Section social events:
- Youth Rugby Committee
- Mentorship
- Commercial Strategy & Events
- HKFC Tens Tournament
- Youth International Tournament & Festival
- Community Outreach
- Elite Program: Provide a platform for HKFC to compete at the highest level and create a training & playing environment that supports players with representative ambitions.
- Recruitment Strategy: Lead on player recruitment for elite teams and aid overseas talent with accommodation and employment upon relocating to HK, leveraging upon HKFC’s existing network.
- Community Rugby: Support team managers operationally and oversee player movement across teams.
- Youth Development: Assist the Youth Director and Committee in fostering coaching pathways from youth to senior and representative levels.
- Player Welfare: Manage and oversee comprehensive support systems both on and off the field, encompassing physiotherapists, medical professionals, and mental health initiatives.
- Stakeholder Relations: Manage relationships with our NSA (Hong Kong China Rugby), other rugby clubs, and the other sporting divisions within HKFC.
- Commercial Strategy: Working with the lead, develop and execute a commercial strategy focused on acquiring and retaining sponsors.
- Operational Leadership: Lead and manage all operational elements of the section.
- Monthly Management Reports: Create and present monthly reports on performance, commercial activities, financials, and operations.
Requirements:
- University degree or equivalent desirable
- Proven experience in stakeholder management
- A solid business and commercial background, ideally within sport.
- Ability to work during mandatory in-season hours (from approximately mid-August to late-March/early-April) to support all on-pitch rugby activity, with off-season hours more flexible:
- Mondays & Thursdays evenings (5-9pm)
- Saturday afternoon (1pm – late)
- Sunday morning (7am – 1pm)
